Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensil.
Teach your children to cover their coughs and sneezes with tissues. If a tissue is unavailable they should cover up their coughs or sneezes using the elbow, arm, or sleeve instead of the hand.
Know the signs and symptoms of the
flu.
- Fever (100º Fahrenheit, 37.8º Celsius or greater)
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Body aches
- Headache
- Feeling very tired
- Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea
Keep sick children at home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have fever or do not have signs of fever, without using fever-reducing drugs. Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who may get infected.
Do not send children to school if they are sick. Any children who are determined to be sick while at school will be sent home.
Beginning school in 2011
Kindergarten Requirements
All Kindergarten students will need a physical examination and updated immunizations. Those two items are due by September 15th or 30 days after your child’s first day of school. Failure to turn in either of these items will result in your child being excluded from school until the proper forms are received.
Students will need to have the following immunizations on record:
DPT-4, with the last one being after their fourth birthday
Polio-3, with the last one being after their fourth birthday.
Measles-2, first dose after their first birthday and second dose no less that 4 weeks after their first.
Mumps-1, after their first birthday.
Rubella-1, after their first birthday.
Varicella-1, after their first birthday or date of disease recorded.
Kindergarten students will also need a dental exam and an eye exam. The eye exam is due by September 15th and needs to be completed by an eye doctor. The dental exam is due by May 15th. The Mobile Dentists are scheduled to come to Marissa Elementary in October. Please watch for information to go home in September. If you want to fill out a waiver for either the eye or dental exam please see the nurse.
Second Grade Requirements
All second grade students will need a dental exam during their 2nd grade year. The exam is due by May 15th. The Mobile Dentists are scheduled at Marissa Elementary in October. Sixth Grade Requirements

New Students
Students new to Marissa School District are required to have physical and up to date immunizations on file. These items will need to be turned 30 days after you child’s first day of school. If your child is in Kindergarten, 2nd or 6th grade, please see those requirements as well. Failure to turn in these two items will result in your child being excluded from school until the proper forms are received.
New Students from Out of State
All new students from out of state are required to have an up to date Illinois physical on file. All immunizations must be current and a current eye exam performed by an eye doctor is also required to be in file. Failure to provide either an Illinois physical or current immunizations 30 days after your child’s first day of school will result in your child being excluded from school until the proper forms are received.
