English III

Course Description

American Literature Course Objective:  In this course, we will explore some of the important authors, works, themes, and movements in American literature from its beginnings to the present day.  While we do not have the time in a single year to do justice to all of America's significant writers and works, we will seek to understand and appreciate the rich American literary imagination, which has drawn on a multitude of experiences and perspectives in a variety of genres.  Through a variety of audience writing, project base learning, socratic seminar, journal writing, portfolio collections, and lecturing about this literature, we will broaden our American cultural literacy, deepen our appreciation of language and literature, and explore the complex nature of our country and ourselves.
