🔪 Scalpel Up! – Surgical Skills Experience for Students
Sparta Community Hospital, in partnership with the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA), is excited to host an immersive hands-on experience for middle school students!

🧪 What Students Will Do

Practice on a laparoscopic simulation box with endoscope setup

Rotate through surgical skill stations (hand–eye coordination, instrument handling, visualization)

Explore surgical innovation and tool design

Compete in a friendly Surgical Skills Showdown (speed, precision, accuracy)

Tour Sparta Community Hospital and learn about healthcare careers (parents/guardians welcome for the tour)

👩‍⚕️ Who Should Attend

Students curious about medicine, biology, engineering, or STEM

Students in grades 6–8

Date/Time: Saturday, October 18, 2025 | 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Location: Sparta Community Hospital – Broadway Plaza, Auxiliary Room A & B (203 S. Vine, Sparta)

Cost: $5.00 (sponsored by Sparta Health & Wellness Foundation; fee covers lunch)

Capacity: Limited spots available – registration required (first come, first served)

Permission: Parent/guardian consent required (details emailed after registration)

Due to medical reasons, the district has lost a full-time route driver, and we will need to combine our local routes from three to two. In doing so, we are sharing the Expected Times of Arrival for pick-up at each bus stop, starting tomorrow morning. Drop-off Times will be approximately the same as before, but we won’t be able to publish those until after running the route tomorrow. We appreciate your attention to this matter, as well as your patience and understanding. Certainly, we are hopeful to return to three local routes as soon as a driver is available.
